FAQs

What is integrative and functional medicine?

Functional medicine takes into account all dimensions of health including physical, mental, emotional, social, spiritual, environmental and occupational health. Integrative medicine coordinates care between healthcare professionals and also conventional and complementary therapies.

Does traditional medicine really work?

Yes, with a background in conventional medicine paired with training in Integrative and Functional Medicine, our healthcare professionals are equipped with the tools to support you in your healthcare needs through functional integrative medicine. Health has a longstanding relationship with nutrition, movement and overall well being which are traditional foundations in functional medicine.

Does NFIM still prescribe conventional medicine?

Yes, we do. However, the mission of our practice is to manage medications with the hope of healing the body so medication is not needed.

Why is the New Patient Paperwork so extensive? Do you really need to know all of this about me?

We know it’s long! But yes, functional medicine requires a comprehensive understanding of all dimensions of a patient’s health (as mentioned above) and well-being. We truly value the time you invest in completing the paperwork.

What should I bring to my New Patient Visit?

Please bring a form of identification (such as a driver’s license), your insurance card, and your New Patient Paperwork which can be printed from our website here.

What services does North Florida Integrative Medicine offer for personal wellness?

Alongside managing your care at our office, NFIM also offers Group Medical Visit classes, Medical Qigong classes, specialty labs and nutrition information and resources. We also offer anti-aging and regenerative services at our complimentary private practice next door, Ageless Medical Solutions (email drakeyageless@gmail.com for more information).

What is the best way for me to lose weight?

We have several Group Medical Visit classes that provide information on different diets. We also prescribe medications to help the inertia of weight loss if medically appropriate but require that educational classes be attended for permanent life changes. These classes that are adjunctive to weight optimization are the Weight Loss Series, Intermittent Fasting, Keto-green™ series, and Sleep Optimization classes.

Why can’t I have a physical exam and review my lab results in the same visit?

Most insurance won’t cover both types of appointments on the same day. It is our policy if we take your healthcare insurance to separate the visits to two separate days.
